Online Survey: Women in Male-Dominated and Technical Professions

According to Рубрика — Суспільство: The NGO PRO WOMEN UA has launched an online survey titled "Women in Male-Dominated and Technical Fields: Experiences, Obstacles, and Stereotypes." This study aims to uncover the stereotypes, difficulties, and support systems affecting women currently working or aspiring to work in traditionally male professions across Ukraine. The findings will help formulate recommendations for employers and educational institutions to better facilitate women's integration into these sectors.

Invitation to Participate

Women who are choosing or changing careers, as well as those who have abandoned the idea of working in male-dominated fields due to stereotypes, are encouraged to join this survey. Amid the full-scale war, labor shortages, and rapid professional shifts, interest among Ukrainian women in these roles has significantly increased. Nevertheless, women remain underrepresented as truck drivers, machine operators, construction workers, and in server rooms and energy facilities.

The survey takes approximately 5-7 minutes to complete and is accessible through a dedicated link. It explores various issues women face when pursuing traditionally male or technical careers-ranging from job search and interviews to workplace dynamics and relationships with colleagues and supervisors.

This initiative is supported by the Government of Canada under the "Women. Peace. Security: From Local to Global" project, implemented by the Ukrainian Women's Fund. Participating in this survey offers a valuable opportunity to improve working conditions for women in technical and male-oriented professions and to influence new approaches in education and employment.

The launch of this survey marks a crucial stride toward achieving gender equality in Ukraine's labor market. Given the numerous barriers and stereotypes women encounter in male-dominated fields, the research will identify core challenges and propose actionable solutions to enhance their inclusion. Backing from international partners like the Government of Canada highlights the broader societal importance of this effort.

As the discussion around gender equality in Ukraine intensifies, recent findings reveal that the gender pay gap has widened significantly, now reaching 27%. This alarming trend highlights the urgent need for systemic reforms, making the insights from wage disparities in male-dominated sectors even more relevant. Addressing these issues is crucial for fostering a more equitable workforce and supporting women in their professional aspirations.
