Ukraine's Armed Forces Retake 480 Square Kilometers in the East; Syrskyi Outlines Annual Strategic Goal
Ukrainian Forces Liberate Territory on the Oleksandrivka Axis
According to Главком: Commander-in-Chief of Ukraine's Armed Forces, General Oleksandr Syrskyi, has announced the liberation of 480 square kilometers of territory on the Oleksandrivka axis. This area is situated at the junction of the Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Dnipropetrovsk regions. According to Syrskyi, this achievement surpasses the results recorded during the Dobropillia counteroffensive operation, which saw over 430 square kilometers retaken.
The General stated that the primary goal for Ukraine's Armed Forces this year is to conduct a strategic defensive operation aimed at containing the enemy, preventing further territorial losses, and exhausting its manpower and resources. Oleksandr Syrskyi emphasized,
“Our main objective for this year is, of course, to execute a strategic defensive operation to contain the enemy, prevent the loss of territory, deplete its forces and means, create conditions for conducting large-scale offensive operations, build up our reserves, ensure high-quality training of servicemen, and simultaneously carry out counteroffensive and offensive operations on fronts where the enemy is weak.”
The Situation on the Front Line
It is worth noting that since March 1st, Russian forces had planned to launch a large-scale offensive across all 13 main axes. Currently, the enemy has redeployed some of its forces and equipment from the Pokrovsk and Ocheretyne axes to the Oleksandrivka axis. Ukraine's defense forces continue to hold their positions on the Pokrovsk axis, particularly on the northern outskirts of Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad.
Oleksandr Syrskyi reported that
“Every day, the enemy attempts to attack, assaults our positions, suffers losses, and is pushed back. They are left only with corpses and wounded, but achieve no success.”
Furthermore, Ukraine's defense forces struck several rear-area targets of Russian troops, hitting:
- an S-400 anti-aircraft missile system
- a metallurgical plant
- a military train
- command posts
In the area of the Hvardiiske settlement in temporarily occupied Crimea, the destruction of a launch vehicle for an S-400 Triumph anti-aircraft missile system was confirmed. The highest enemy activity is observed in eastern Ukraine, particularly on the Pokrovsk and Kostiantynivka axes.
The liberation of significant territory on the Oleksandrivka axis underscores the efforts of Ukraine's Armed Forces within the context of the current military situation. This development also highlights the ability of Ukrainian troops to adapt to changes in enemy tactics, which, according to General Syrskyi, result in heavy Russian losses during assaults. The importance of the chosen defensive strategy, aimed at exhausting the enemy's strength, is becoming increasingly evident as the frontline situation remains tense and dynamic. These gains come as Ukraine continues to defend against a larger adversary while preparing for future operations.
In light of these recent developments, it's important to note that Ukrainian forces have also made significant strides in the south, having liberated 470 square kilometers during their offensive operations. This ongoing effort not only highlights the resilience of Ukraine's military but also sets the stage for further advancements on multiple fronts.
