Death Toll Rises to 22, 87 Injured After Attack on Kyiv Region, Says Minister Klymenko
Officials Tour Vyshneve Following Russian Strike
According to Главком: Ukraine’s Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko, along with State Emergency Service (SES) head Andriy Danyk, the leadership of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, and police officials, visited the town of Vyshneve in the Kyiv region. The area suffered extensive damage during a nighttime Russian attack. As of 5:15 PM, the assault across Ukraine has left 22 people dead and 87 wounded. In Kyiv alone, 15 people were killed and 58 injured, while in the Kyiv region, authorities confirmed seven deaths and 29 wounded-among them four emergency responders.
Aftermath and Rescue Operations
More than 200 private homes were hit in the strike zone. Overnight, around 50 residents were evacuated using armored vehicles, and over 500 people were temporarily moved to safer locations. Klymenko stated:
“About 50 people were evacuated by armored vehicles during the night. Together with local authorities, we temporarily relocated over 500 residents to safety. We are helping people get to buses so they can leave for prepared shelters.” - Ihor Klymenko
Over a thousand rescue workers and police officers have been deployed to manage the aftermath in Vyshneve. Teams on the ground include emergency personnel, medics, police officers, Ukrainian Red Cross volunteers, SES psychologists, canine units, and specialists with advanced equipment. Klymenko also commented on the ongoing efforts:
“First, we extinguish the fire hotspots, then we search each house to check for victims. Regarding possible missing persons-police command centers are currently conducting interviews, and we will soon have a clearer picture of how many people may be unaccounted for.” - Ihor Klymenko
Andriy Danyk reported an incident where rescuers heard cries for help coming from a basement during a sweep of the area:
- “Rescuers entered, opened it, and found people inside. We handed them over to ambulance crews.”
The situation in the region remains dire, but emergency services continue their work to mitigate the consequences of the tragedy.
This attack marks another escalation in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, resulting in significant casualties and destruction. Local authorities and rescue teams are persistently addressing the damage, ensuring safety and aid for those affected. The role of volunteers and humanitarian organizations remains crucial in supporting residents during this difficult time.
The recent attack on the Kyiv region highlights the ongoing threat faced by civilians, as seen in a previous incident where a Russian strike on apartment blocks resulted in significant casualties. In that attack, 15 individuals lost their lives and 58 were injured, underscoring the urgent need for continued vigilance and support for affected communities.
