Pavlychko passed away on January 29, 2023, in Kyiv. A graduate of the Ivan Franko State University of Lviv’s Philology Faculty in 1953, he furthered his studies at Lviv University’s postgraduate program between 1953 and 1955. That same year, he took on the role of head of the literary department at the Lviv Young Spectator’s Theatre named after M. Gorky, which today is known as the First Academic Ukrainian Theatre for Children and Youth.
