At Berlin Airport, all flights have been completely stopped due to a strike by workers, resulting in hundreds of canceled flights and disrupting the plans of thousands of passengers. This is reported by CFTS.

Strike in Berlin: how many flights were canceled

On March 18, Berlin Airport is neither receiving nor dispatching planes due to a warning strike by the Ver.di union. A total of 445 flights have been canceled, affecting approximately 57,000 passengers.

Passengers are advised to contact airlines for:

  • ticket rebooking

  • finding alternative routes

  • confirming flight statuses.

Worker protests in Germany: reasons for the strike

The strike is related to a conflict between the Ver.di union and the airport operator FBB regarding working conditions. Workers demand a salary increase and improved social guarantees.

The main demands of the protesters are:

  • a salary increase of approximately 6%

  • an additional day off

  • revision of labor contract conditions.

The previous proposal from the employer is considered unacceptable by the union, hence the protest actions continue.

In addition to the aviation sector, the strike has also affected public transport in Munich. Restrictions began after the morning peak and included the subway, trams, and other forms of transport.

The protest is expected to continue. On Thursday, strikes are planned to spread to other cities in Germany, including Hamburg, as well as regions of Bavaria and North Rhine-Westphalia.

Such large-scale strikes can impact transportation across the country and create additional difficulties for passengers.

Earlier, Lufthansa canceled over 460 flights due to a pilots' strike.
