Passengers on Ryanair face a €55 fine for failing to register for their flight
Ryanair passengers who do not register for their flight online may be charged €55 at the airport. This fee is applicable to each person, so for a family, even one missed action in the app can lead to significant expenses. This is stated in the official Ryanair rules.
Ryanair Airport Registration Fee: How Much You'll Have to Pay
Ryanair refers to this not as a fine, but as an airport registration fee. It is paid by the passenger who arrives at the flight without completing online check-in, despite reminders from the airline.
The official amount of the fee is €55. For four passengers, the total will be €220.
Online registration closes two hours before the scheduled departure time. After that, you can register at the airport, but no later than 40 minutes before the flight. If you are late for this timeframe, the carrier may deny boarding without a refund.
Ryanair Online Check-In: When It Opens for Free
The start time for check-in depends on whether the passenger has selected a paid seat.
-
With a purchased seat, registration is available 60 days before departure.
-
With free random seat allocation, it opens 24 hours before the flight.
-
Online registration closes two hours before departure.
After completing check-in, the boarding pass appears in the Ryanair app. As of November 12, 2025, the airline has switched to digital boarding passes, paper ones are not accepted on most flights.
If Your Phone is Dead: Will You Have to Pay Ryanair?
A passenger who has already checked in online but cannot show the digital boarding pass due to a dead, lost, or damaged phone can obtain it for free at the airport.
An exception applies to flights from Morocco: passengers need to check in online, and they can collect the paper pass at the registration desk for free. Check-in conditions and timings should be verified in the app before each trip, as rules may vary for specific routes.
Remember, Ryanair is changing seating rules for families with children.
