Aitech to Upgrade Satellite Supercomputer S-A2300 with NVIDIA Thor Architecture
Space-Grade Supercomputer Gets a Major AI Performance Boost
According to НВ — Техно: Aitech is set to upgrade its space-grade supercomputer, the S-A2300 AI, by integrating the NVIDIA IGX Thor architecture. This enhancement aims to dramatically increase onboard computing power, enabling satellites to handle far more complex tasks in orbit. The current system relies on NVIDIA Jetson AGX Orin Industrial modules, delivering up to 248 TOPS of AI performance. Following the planned upgrade, performance is expected to reach 5581 FP4 TFLOPS.
Enhanced Connectivity and Safety Features
The upgrade will also introduce high-speed 400 GbE networking, allowing faster data exchange. The S-A2300 AI platform will include a dedicated functional safety zone, improving system reliability during demanding missions. Aitech already has access to Thor architecture test samples, allowing the company to run necessary trials before deployment.
Aitech counts NASA and commercial satellite operators among its partners, reflecting strong confidence in its technology. The S-A2300 AI is designed for low Earth orbit missions, where it will support:
- autonomous navigation,
- image analysis,
- climate monitoring,
- space debris tracking.
With this modernization, Aitech expects to significantly expand what satellite systems can achieve in space, tackling more resource-intensive tasks without latency.
The S-A2300 AI upgrade could mark a key milestone in space technology, as higher system performance enables more complex and demanding operations in real time. This is likely to improve mission efficiency for near-Earth research and environmental monitoring. By adopting the NVIDIA IGX Thor architecture and next-generation communication links, Aitech may also strengthen its competitive position in the space technology market.
As advancements in space technology continue to accelerate, the recent announcement from NASA about a processor significantly faster than existing chips underscores the industry's push towards more powerful computing solutions. Aitech's S-A2300 AI upgrade aligns with this trend, promising enhanced capabilities for satellite operations and paving the way for groundbreaking applications in space.
