Ukrainian Antitrust Authority Blocks UAE Firm's Stake in Rocket Maker Fire Point

Edge Group's Application Rejected

According to Главком: The Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine (AMCU) has blocked a proposed acquisition by the Emirati defense conglomerate Edge Group of a stake in the Ukrainian drone and missile manufacturer Fire Point. This decision prevents a major foreign investment into a key part of Ukraine's domestic defense industry during wartime. According to BBC Ukraine, the deal would have involved roughly 30% of Fire Point's shares, valued at approximately $760 million, with the company's total worth estimated at around $2.5 billion.

The AMCU confirmed it received the necessary documentation from Fire Point LLC and Edge Group PJSC regarding the proposed concentration. At the time of the committee's response, no renewed application had been submitted. Fire Point's co-founder and chief designer, Denys Shtilerman, noted that the company currently produces about three Flamingo cruise missiles per day.

"Production rates could increase after switching to our own engine," said Denys Shtilerman.

Missile Technical Specifications

The Flamingo missile utilizes a twin-spool turbojet engine, which is roughly twice as efficient as the single-spool engines commonly used in many cruise missiles. Fire Point is also finalizing preparations for the adoption of its new FP-7 and FP-9 ballistic missiles, which are positioned as significantly more affordable than Western counterparts. The tactical and technical characteristics of these missiles enable strikes against strategic targets deep within Russian territory.

The rejection of Edge Group's application likely signals a Ukrainian strategy to maintain control over critical defense technologies during the ongoing war. Fire Point, which is actively scaling production of advanced missiles, has become a vital player in bolstering the country's defense capabilities. This move underscores the heightened priority of national security and technological sovereignty when considering foreign investment in the military sector.
