The heating season in Ukraine is becoming the most challenging during the war. Experts warn of serious problems in the country's energy system. According to experts, the current winter has been passed, but with great difficulties, including prolonged power outages. However, the upcoming year may be critical if the war continues.
Renowned energy expert Viktor Kurtev believes that Ukraine is already exhausting all possibilities that allow the system to function. He warned about serious inconveniences that Ukrainians will have to face.
'We will get through this season. With certain inconveniences... they could have been avoided if we had reacted correctly,' Kurtev emphasized, highlighting that daily power outages are already lasting up to eight hours a day.
The expert considers this season critical and the last when the system can operate at the edge of its capabilities. He noted that this is the last moment when Ukraine can withstand the current load.
Forecasts for the Future
According to forecasts, if the war continues throughout the next year, then next winter the energy system of Ukraine will simply be unable to function. However, according to Kurtev, such a scenario will not occur since both sides of the conflict are exhausted. He hopes that the collapse of the energy system and other sectors by February could become a driving force for achieving a peaceful settlement.
'I believe that both sides cannot sustain the continuation of the conflict. Therefore, if we survive this winter, it will be necessary to cease hostilities and seek a compromise,' the expert predicts.
Kurtev also adds that the next year will be a period of 'another reality' for Ukraine and Russia.
