The United Kingdom is preparing to ban its companies from providing services such as shipping and insurance for the export of Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG). This decision is aimed at reducing Kremlin revenues to assist Ukraine in the war.
The UK Foreign Office has announced its intention to block Russia's access to companies servicing LNG exports. This ban will be implemented gradually over 2026 alongside European partners.
In October, the European Union adopted new sanctions against Russia, which involve banning the import of Russian LNG starting January 1, 2027. Additionally, the UK will allocate £13 million for the repair of Ukraine's energy sector and support for Ukrainians affected by the loss of heating and electricity.
“The ban will be gradually implemented throughout 2026 in sync with our European partners,” stated the UK Foreign Office.
“Previously, the UK and the US had already imposed sanctions against the two largest Russian oil companies - 'Lukoil' and 'Rosneft'.”
The United Kingdom plans to ban services for the export of Russian liquefied natural gas to support Ukraine in the war and limit Russia's revenues. This action will align with similar measures by the European Union and previous sanctions against Russian oil companies.
