Workers of the State Bureau of Investigation discovered that the deputy commander of one of the military units in the Lviv region was using servicemen for private works. Instead of serving, they were performing tasks such as laying paving stones, repairing houses, and installing tombstones.
According to information from the SBI, the deputy commander 'helped' a friend entrepreneur who needed workers for paving. The commander allocated several soldiers who actually worked for the entrepreneur under his instructions.
The Bureau reported that the military received salaries for their work in the unit, while they were occupied with paving works at facilities in the Lviv region. The amount of damage to the state budget due to the absence of military personnel from service is still to be calculated by experts.
It is assumed that the deputy commander impeded the execution of orders from higher command by encouraging servicemen to leave the unit without permission. He has been charged with exceeding authority or official powers, which can result in up to 5 years of imprisonment. An investigation is still ongoing, and the suspect is being held in custody with a bail possibility exceeding 1 million hryvnias.
A corruption scandal in the Ukrainian army: the deputy commander of the military unit in the Lviv region used servicemen for personal matters while they were supposed to be on duty. His charges could lead to serious consequences, including imprisonment.
