Ukrainian Athlete Competes in Norwegian Capital

On March 15, 2026, Ukrainian ski jumper Yevhen Marusiak secured 22nd place at a World Cup event in Oslo, marking his best result of the 2025/26 season. The competition was held on the large hill, though the second round was cancelled due to strong winds, altering the event's format. Ski jumping is a sport where consistency and technique are tested against challenging weather conditions.

Two Ukrainian athletes participated in the event's qualification:

  • Yevhen Marusiak
  • Vitalii Kalinichenko

Marusiak placed 28th in the qualifier with a jump of 123.5 meters. In the main round, he matched this distance of 123.5 meters, earning 107.8 points. This 22nd-place finish represents an improvement over his previous season's bests of 25th place in both Sapporo and Kulm. He also scored points earlier in the season by finishing 28th in Zakopane.

Vitalii Kalinichenko did not qualify for the main round, finishing 61st with a jump of 109 meters.

Second Round Cancellation

The victory in the single-round competition went to Japan's Tomofumi Naito, earning his first-ever World Cup win. Slovenia's Anže Lanišek took second place, trailing Naito by just 0.1 points. The third podium spot went to Finland's Antti Aalto, marking his first career bronze medal.

Marusiak's performance in Oslo therefore stands as a significant milestone in his career, being his highest placement of the current season. This result highlights the positive trajectory for Ukrainian ski jumpers on the demanding international circuit, suggesting effective training and preparation for future events. The weather-related cancellation also underscores the unpredictable challenges athletes must adapt to during competition.

Marusiak's achievement in Oslo reflects the growing strength of Ukrainian athletes in winter sports. This follows a remarkable milestone for the country's luge team, which recently celebrated its first Nations Cup victory. Such accomplishments not only highlight individual talent but also demonstrate the progress of Ukrainian sports on the international stage.
