The Russian Chess Federation has been granted the right to vote at the General Assembly of the International Chess Federation, which will take place in December 2025. Among the 200 federations with voting rights will be both Russia and Ukraine.
The question of returning national symbols to Russians and Belarusians has already been discussed at last year's FIDE General Assembly, but no decision was made. This time Russia will have the opportunity to vote for the restoration of its symbols. Following Russia's intervention in Ukraine, FIDE removed Russian teams from tournaments and prohibited the use of Russian symbols.
FIDE President Arkady Dvorkovich will attempt to bring this issue to the General Assembly, which will take place on December 14. A simple majority of votes will be needed to make a decision. FIDE will also consider the remarks of the Russian about the Ukrainian Daniel Narodytsky, which have drawn criticism.
