IOC Warning and Delegation Roster
Ukrainian skeleton leader Vladyslav Heraskevych has disclosed that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) issued a warning to Ukraine concerning potential protest actions at the 2026 Games. This communication followed protests by a Ukrainian junior team at a European Cup event, with the IOC stressing the need to avoid demonstrations against the war during the Olympics. According to Heraskevych, this information was relayed to Ukrainian officials to help prevent any such incidents.
In a separate development, the official delegation roster for Ukraine's national team at the XXV Winter Olympic Games in 2026 has been confirmed. The delegation will consist of 103 individuals, including:
- 46 athletes,
- 42 coaches, doctors, massage therapists, and other technical staff,
- 15 members of the national team's headquarters staff.
Ukraine's Sporting Representation
Team Ukraine will compete across 11 sports, specifically:
- biathlon (10 athletes),
- alpine skiing (2),
- nordic combined (2),
- cross-country skiing (6),
- luge (10),
- skeleton (1),
- snowboarding (1),
- ski jumping (2),
- freestyle skiing (9),
- figure skating (1), and
- short track speed skating (2).
This participation underscores the Ukrainian athletes' determination to compete on the world stage despite the ongoing conflict in their homeland. The IOC has historically sought to maintain the Games as a neutral platform, though political tensions often surface.
The IOC's warning is a significant element in Ukraine's preparations for the 2026 Olympics. It highlights the international sporting community's sensitivity to political protests during major events. The participation of 103 individuals across various sports demonstrates not only their resolve but also serves as a point of national pride amid profound challenges.
This situation also emphasizes the critical role of international sports solidarity during times of global crisis.
