The Norwegian government is considering the possibility of providing a loan to Ukraine through its state pension fund. This idea involves using the fund, amounting to €1.7 trillion, as collateral to obtain a loan from the European Union of over €100 billion. Support for the initiative has already been expressed by four out of nine political parties in Norway.
According to The Times, the EU plans to raise €140 billion to support Ukraine, but this process is currently stalled due to insufficient guarantees from Ukraine. Norway is criticized for 'profiting from war', but its leader of the Liberal Party believes that aiding Ukraine is a responsible step.
The Prime Minister of Norway confirmed readiness to cooperate and provide the loan, but the final decision will be made after negotiations in Brussels. The Danish Prime Minister noted this potential involvement of Norway as significant. Norway, which has the largest sovereign fund in the world, will also finance a gender recovery project in Ukraine.
