Funding for veteran programs in the draft State Budget for 2026 will increase by UAH 6.1 billion compared to the current year, amounting to UAH 17.9 billion. This was announced to Ukrinform by Taras Tarasenko, Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Social Policy and Veterans' Rights Protection, member of the 'Servant of the People' party.
The increase in funding will cover all key areas of veteran policy. The largest share of the budget - UAH 5.7 billion - will be directed to housing compensation for veterans with disabilities of groups I and II. This is UAH 1.7 billion more than was allocated in 2024. UAH 4 billion will be allocated for comprehensive support measures for veterans. These funds will cover psychological assistance, professional adaptation, development of veteran sports, support for projects, and one-time monetary assistance. Compared to the previous period, funding for these areas will increase by UAH 2.6 billion.
'Veterans are not a separate category of citizens, but a part of modern Ukrainian society, shaped by their courage. That is why state policy is aimed at ensuring that every veteran has the opportunity to return to a full life, realize their potential, and feel dignified support from the state and the community,' the deputy noted.
Another UAH 2.9 billion (which is UAH 0.9 billion more) will go towards maintaining specialists for veteran support. UAH 1.1 billion is allocated for the creation and development of veteran spaces - UAH 0.6 billion more than before. Taras Tarasenko summarized that the goal of the state is to transform veteran policy from a set of benefits into a system of opportunities. Thus, the Budget-2026 demonstrates a serious increase in the state's attention to the needs of veterans, although the issue of effective coordination and systematic implementation of programs remains a pressing challenge for the responsible ministry.
In 2026, funding for veteran programs in Ukraine will be increased by UAH 6.1 billion, indicating the growing attention of the state to the needs and support of veterans. In particular, significant funds will be allocated for housing compensation, support for psychological well-being, sports development, and professional adaptation. However, it is important to ensure effective coordination and systematic implementation of these programs for maximum benefit to veterans and their families.
