Usyk's Training Injury

World heavyweight boxing champion Oleksandr Usyk sustained an injury while training with the 'Polissya' football team in Spain. The incident occurred during a joint training session when the boxer was involved in a heavy collision and fell to the ground, requiring immediate medical attention from the team's doctors. Usyk holds the WBC, WBA, and IBF world titles, making his fitness a major concern for the boxing world.

Usyk's most recent fight was in May 2025, where he defeated Daniel Dubois to become the undisputed world champion for the second time in his career. However, he soon relinquished the WBO title, thereby losing his undisputed status. The World Boxing Organization received an official communication from Usyk's team regarding the future of the WBO heavyweight title, leading to his decision to vacate the belt.

Usyk's Statement and Future Plans

Usyk stated: 'I will continue boxing. I want to fight Deontay Wilder. I am interested in this bout. He is a former world champion, a well-known and very powerful boxer. He has been one of the best heavyweights of the last decade.'

This injury could disrupt Usyk's preparation for future fights, particularly a planned bout against Deontay Wilder, which he has repeatedly emphasized as crucial for his career. His swift recovery is therefore paramount. His vacating of the WBO title also creates new opportunities in the competitive heavyweight division, opening the path for other contenders. For now, it remains unclear when Usyk will be able to return to the ring, but his ambitions remain undiminished.
