Diploma recognition in Poland: two procedures for Ukrainians depending on the year of graduation

The procedure for recognizing a Ukrainian diploma in Poland has two main trajectories: Recognition and Nostrifikacja, which depend on the date of diploma issuance and the specialty. Recognition (Prosty tryb) is suitable for diplomas obtained before June 19, 2006. This procedure is conducted by the National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA) free of charge and takes approximately 60 days.

For diplomas issued after June 20, 2006, the Nostrifikacja procedure (Pełna nostryfikacja) is mandatory. Nostrifikacja is a paid procedure and takes at least 90 days. To determine which procedure is necessary, one can use the online system Kwalifikator.

Requirements for diploma recognition

To confirm the diploma through NAWA, the following documents must be submitted:

  • original diploma
  • appendix
  • preliminary document
  • passport
  • PESEL UKR

It is important to note that documents in Ukrainian or English do not need to be translated. In the case of nostrifikacja, it is necessary to submit an application to the Ministry of Science (MNiSW) and obtain a certificate on the necessity of nostrifikacja. The university to which the documents are submitted must have a scientific category of A+, A, or B+.

Thus, Ukrainians who want to confirm their diplomas in Poland must understand which procedure to choose depending on the year of diploma issuance, as well as be attentive to the requirements regarding document submission.

This information is important for Ukrainian citizens planning to study or work in Poland, as diploma recognition is a necessary condition for legalizing their education. Given the growing flow of Ukrainians into Poland, a clear understanding of diploma recognition and nostrifikacja procedures can significantly simplify the integration process into Polish society and the labor market.
