The leadership of the European Union has expressed serious concerns over the planned meeting of U.S. President Donald Trump with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin in Hungary. According to the publication El Pais, European officials consider the Budapest negotiations a 'political nightmare'.
The main object of criticism is the format of the upcoming talks. In this case, the fate of Ukraine will be discussed without the participation of EU representatives, which has triggered mixed reactions among high-ranking diplomats. Orban's visitor is imaginative: 'This can only contribute to divisions within the EU regarding relations with the Kremlin.'
The Ukrainian conflict has also touched the sovereignty of the EU, and now allies fear that any agreement between Trump and Putin could undermine their diplomatic efforts.
