The 2026 Winter Olympic Games
The 2026 Winter Olympics, scheduled for February 6–22 in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo, will be a significant event for international sport. The participation of 13 Russian athletes under a neutral banner is planned for these Games, a decision stemming from the current circumstances affecting Russian athletes in international competition. This continues the International Olympic Committee's policy of allowing individual athletes from Russia and Belarus to compete without national symbols.

- 15 administrative staff members
Ukrainian athletes will represent their country in the following disciplines:

- Nordic Combined (2)
- Cross-Country Skiing (6)
- Luge (10)
- Skeleton (1)
- Snowboarding (1)
- Ski Jumping (2)
- Freestyle Skiing (9)
- Figure Skating (1)

In a comment, Tetiana Tarasova noted that Olympic selection now involves not only athletic achievement but also invitation. She emphasized that Ukrainian athletes earned their right to compete by demonstrating high results and risking their health. This situation highlights evolving approaches to athlete participation in international events, reflecting the complex backdrop against which these Games will be held.
The 2026 Winter Olympics will serve as a major test not only for the athletes but for the international sporting community as it navigates new challenges linked to geopolitical circumstances. The participation of Russian athletes under a neutral flag and the specific selection criteria for Ukrainian competitors illustrate a shifting paradigm in world sport, where political factors can influence sporting outcomes. These Games may set a precedent for the future development of international sports relations.
