In Germany, a debate has erupted regarding the retirement age for civil servants. The Pestel Institute from Hanover has suggested that they work 5.5 years longer than employees in the private sector. This is due to the fact that officials live 5.5 years longer, creating additional costs for the pension system.

According to the proposal, about 1.5 million civil servants in Germany are in varying age categories, complicating the establishment of a uniform retirement age. Among these officials are teachers, police officers, and other groups who have high pensions and benefits, adding stability to the workplace.

Trade unions have rejected the idea of extending the working life for civil servants, calling it absurd. Nevertheless, the Pestel Institute itself proposes to increase pensions for low-income individuals, as their life expectancy is lower. The head of the organization noted the social inequality in the pension system: wealthy retirees scatter money, while poor retirees are forced to make do with less. Statistics show that pensions in Germany do not always provide a sufficiently decent standard of living, especially for low-wage workers.
