Kyiv Hosts Free Melanoma Diagnostic Week
From May 11 to May 17, 2026, Kyiv will offer a week of free melanoma screenings at the Center for Dermatovenereology and Allergology, located at 72 Saksahanskoho Street. No appointment or referral is needed, making it easier for more people to access essential medical care.
Melanoma is a form of skin cancer, and early detection is critical for effective treatment. A dermatologist examination typically lasts about 10 to 15 minutes. The center is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM, and on weekends from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Notably, on May 5, 2026, a mobile vaccination unit will also be operating at the center.

For self-checks at home, experts recommend following the ABCDE rule, which includes these key points:
- A (Asymmetry) – one half of the mole does not match the other;
- B (Border) – edges are irregular, blurred, or jagged;
- C (Color) – uneven coloring, with shades of brown, black, or other hues;
- D (Diameter) – larger than 6 millimeters across;
- E (Evolving) – any change in size, shape, or color over time.
Also watch for the “ugly duckling” sign—when one mole looks distinctly different from all the others on your body.
This initiative is a significant step in the fight against melanoma, giving everyone the chance to get a free diagnostic check.
The free melanoma screening week in Kyiv is part of broader efforts to raise public awareness about skin cancer and the importance of timely diagnosis. Since melanoma can be life-threatening, early detection greatly improves the odds of successful treatment. Offering free exams without advance registration helps reach more people who may need medical attention.
In addition to the free melanoma screenings, Kyiv residents can also benefit from state-funded cancer screenings that cover a range of tests. This initiative highlights the importance of regular health check-ups and early detection in combating various types of cancer.
