At the 'Yuzhny' port, the 'Epicentr K' group of companies, along with the Urban family, plans to build a large grain terminal capable of processing up to 5 million tons of grain annually. This project will become part of the 'Epicentr K' agribusiness holding and will feature vertical integration from the field to export, reports Latifundist.com.

Project details

In terms of project implementation volumes, the new terminal will rank in the TOP-5 largest in Ukraine, compared to other complexes such as 'Nika-Ter' and Neptune Grain Terminal (with capacities of 4-5 million tons). Only 'Transbalc' has a larger capacity – about 7 million tons per year.

By choosing the 'Yuzhny' seaport for the terminal construction, developers took into account its deep port channel and convenient land logistics for exports from central and eastern Ukraine. The new terminal is expected to start operations in 2026.

Criticism and challenges

Some critics express awareness of potential issues with the use of the 'Industrial' station of the Odesa port plant for processing and sorting wagons. The emergence of the new terminal may lead to a decrease in grain transshipment tariffs, but it will require a sufficient volume of grain to fully utilize the 5 million tons of capacity.

The construction of a large grain terminal at the 'Yuzhny' port is an important step for the development of Ukraine's agricultural sector. This project will improve the export infrastructure for grain crops and reduce transportation costs. However, challenges related to logistics and ensuring the necessary volume of raw materials for the terminal's operation stand in the way of success.
