According to Politico, Ukraine has set five key demands for ending the conflict with Russia. Among them is the demand for a durable ceasefire and security guarantees.
U.S. President Donald Trump has a position on 'territorial exchange' to achieve peace. Ukraine emphasizes that it will not retreat on the issue of its borders, which are guaranteed by international law and its constitution.
President Zelensky stated that Ukraine supports the idea of a ceasefire followed by negotiations, but will not agree to any concessions regarding the front line.
Compensation for damages
The damage caused to Ukraine as a result of the conflict is estimated at $500 billion to $1 trillion. Ukraine demands compensation from Russia for this damage and emphasizes that a significant part of Russian assets is owned by European allies, particularly in Belgium.
Security guarantees
Ukraine believes that membership in NATO and the European Union is the only long-term way to stop Russian aggression. Kyiv rejects demands to reduce its own army and halt arms supplies to Ukrainian allies.
Zelensky points out that Kyiv needs security guarantees to maintain independence and sovereignty.
Children and prisoners of war
Russia has deported over 20,000 Ukrainian children, of whom only a small part has been returned home. Ukraine continues to fight for the return of all citizens who have been captured.
Maintaining sanctions against the Russian Federation
Kyiv and its partners in the EU support the continuation of sanctions against Russia, warning of possible consequences of their cancellation. According to them, this will help prevent new aggressive actions from Moscow.
Meanwhile, Russian advisor Dmitry Suslov stated that Putin agreed to slightly lesser conditions for a ceasefire. It was also noted that the only optimistic scenario for Ukraine is the support of sanctions and the restoration of security with the help of European allies.
