Ukraine Presents at EU Preparedness Conference
Deputy Prime Minister Oleksii Kubela participated in the EU Preparedness Conference, where he detailed Ukraine's experience in safeguarding critical infrastructure and outlined a strategic shift towards a systemic resilience model. The conference focused on enhancing readiness for the complex challenges nations, including Ukraine, currently face.
Kubela stated that over 3,000 critical infrastructure sites in Ukraine require protection. To realize its energy resilience plans, the country needs more than €5.4 billion in funding. He emphasized the crucial development of distributed generation, targeting a capacity of 4 GW. Additionally, plans are in place to deploy modular heating solutions, which will provide over 5 GW of additional capacity.
'We have moved from a reactive, piecemeal approach to a systemic model of resilience. This is built on resilience plans for regions and communities, covering infrastructure protection, distributed generation, water, and heat. The scale of the challenge is immense.' Oleksii Kubela
This conference served as a vital platform for sharing expertise and developing recommendations to strengthen national resilience in the face of contemporary threats.
International Cooperation on Critical Infrastructure Protection
Ukraine's involvement in the EU Preparedness Conference highlights the growing international collaboration on protecting critical infrastructure. Developing these systemic resilience models is a key step toward boosting the country's energy independence and security, particularly given ongoing challenges. The investment figures provided by Kubela underscore the significant need for support from international partners to reinforce Ukraine's national infrastructure. This strategic pivot comes as Ukraine continues to defend and rebuild its essential services amidst conflict.
As Ukraine advances its resilience strategies, it is also taking significant steps to enhance its energy exchange with Europe. The recent announcement of plans to increase energy trade capacity by 1.5 GW reflects a commitment to fortifying infrastructure and ensuring energy security. This initiative is part of a broader effort to attract the necessary funding and bolster national resilience against ongoing challenges.
