Summer Cherry Prices in Ukraine Expected to Range Between 100 and 150 UAH per Kilogram

Ціни на вишні в Україні цього літа прогнозують на рівні від 100 до 150 гривень за кілограм.

Cherry Market Outlook in Ukraine

This summer, Ukraine’s cherry market will be supplied primarily by domestic growers. Prices are projected to stabilize at 100–150 UAH per kilogram. The key production regions are Odesa and Dnipropetrovsk oblasts. During the peak harvest period, when local cherries flood the market, prices are expected to fluctuate between $2 and $3 per kilogram.

Although spring weather anomalies affected some fruit and vegetable crops, cherry orchards largely escaped major damage. Critical losses from cold spells were avoided in Odesa and Dnipropetrovsk oblasts, and some areas managed to dodge spring frosts entirely. However, there was a temporary loss of output in Crimea, and traditional orchards in Zaporizhzhia and Kherson oblasts remain under occupation.

Pricing and Imported Cherries

Domestic sellers will have to set summer prices based on what Ukrainian consumers can realistically afford. Olena Kischak, Head of the Breeding and Technology Department at the Institute of Horticulture of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences and a Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, commented:

"During the mass harvest season, price tags for this beloved summer fruit should stabilize and stay within 100–150 UAH per kilogram." — Olena Kischak

Imported cherries are also available on the market. Spanish cherries are retailing locally at 1,800 to 2,500 UAH per kilogram. In late May, Greek cherries were sold on Kyiv’s wholesale market for 1,000 to 1,300 UAH per kilogram. Ukraine has long been recognized as a significant global producer of cherries, making the fruit a familiar staple for consumers.

"Last season, Ukrainian farmers fully supplied the country with high-quality cherries, and summer prices comfortably ranged between 75 and 150 UAH per kilogram," noted Olena Kischak. According to the expert, overall pricing will quickly adjust to match real demand. Since cherries are highly perishable, prices will directly depend on Ukrainians’ purchasing power.

By mid-June, market conditions are expected to shift in favor of domestic producers. While this year’s weather anomalies impacted some fruit and vegetable crops, they did not inflict critical harm on Ukraine’s cherry orchards.

This situation reflects the recovery of domestic agriculture after earlier adverse weather conditions. Stable cherry prices could positively affect producers’ economic health and ensure product affordability for consumers. However, it is crucial to monitor the market closely in the coming months, as prices may vary based on demand and the competitiveness of imported goods.

As the cherry prices stabilize for the summer season, it's essential to keep an eye on the broader agricultural market trends in Ukraine. For instance, recent surges in onion prices highlight how fluctuations in supply can impact consumer costs. Understanding these dynamics can provide valuable insights for both buyers and sellers in the current market landscape.
