The government is actively preparing for a difficult heating season. At this point, 1.36 billion euros have already been found out of the required 1.9 billion for purchasing gas for the winter. This was reported by Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko during a special closed meeting with journalists.
“We secured 1.36 billion euros for gas procurement to prepare for winter – in particular, these funds come from the European Investment Bank, EBRD, funds from Norway, and funds from the EU. We understand the source of 70% of the funds and cover the remaining 30% – part of it are grants, some are loans, and some are provided thanks to the Ukrainian banking sector,” emphasized the head of government.
She reported that in August-September, over 1.5 billion UAH was allocated for the protection of energy facilities in the conflict zone, a reserve of materials for rapid restoration has been ensured, and collaboration with international partners regarding air defense systems continues.
Preparation for the heating season
Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction of Ukraine Oleksii Kuleba noted that the heating season has started as planned. He highlighted that work on the protection of energy facilities has been ongoing uninterruptedly since 2023.
“The activities ensured by the Recovery Agency together with Ukrenergo include the protection of 22 substations with 46 elements. Of these, 38 elements are already ready. Another eight are 90% ready and will be completed by the end of the year,” clarified Kuleba. He also emphasized that the enemy constantly changes its tactics of strikes, and accordingly, adjustments are made to protection plans.
In general, it was noted that Ukraine is ready for the heating season with the support of international partners and with a significant reserve of expenses for energy capacity and response to unforeseen circumstances.
