The head of the board of NEC 'Ukrenergo', Vitaliy Zaychenko, warned about possible emergency power outages for residential consumers during evening hours, especially in the eastern regions of the country. He stated this in a broadcast of the Marathon 'Unified News'.
'Emergency outage schedules are partially applied to residential consumers. These restrictions will apply today during the peak evening load and possibly in the next hour in the eastern part of Ukraine,' Zaychenko explained.
The reason for the outages are daily powerful enemy attacks on energy facilities. Power limitation schedules for industrial consumers are already in place from 7 AM to 10 PM.
Vitaliy Zaychenko emphasized that energy workers see a change in the tactics of the Russians regarding Ukraine's energy system. Previously, there were massive missile attacks, with up to 100 missiles at once, but now the enemy has switched to a different strategy.
'They are simply destroying entire energy districts, substations, and power plants. The thermal power plants, which are to provide our consumers with heat and light during the winter, are suffering the most,' said the head of Ukrenergo.
He called this strategy the 'scorched earth' tactic, where the enemy systematically destroys energy infrastructure, as is done on the front. Some facilities have already been hit dozens of times, but energy workers continue to restore them.
Speaking about readiness for the winter period, Vitaliy Zaychenko noted that the company has done significant work since 2022. Currently, more than 50% of Ukrenergo's transformers are protected at a level that withstands kamikaze drone attacks.
'They are attacked by Shaheds daily and continue to operate. Therefore, there is confidence that we will ensure the transmission of electricity,' he stated.
The head of Ukrenergo also urged Ukrainians to take care of their own energy independence: to stock up on power banks, flashlights, and ensure backup power for Wi-Fi routers. If possible, it is worth installing solar panels and batteries.
Vitaliy Zaychenko recalled simple energy-saving rules:
- Do not turn on several powerful electrical appliances at the same time
- Shift powerful consumption to daytime or nighttime periods
- Unplug appliances that are not in use
- Turn off lights where they are not needed
- Maximize energy efficiency
The Ukrainian energy system is under pressure due to daily attacks initiated by the enemy. Withstanding such negativity, Ukrenergo is doing everything possible to ensure stable electricity supply to its consumers. Citizens have been urged to rationally use electricity and be ready for possible limitations in electricity consumption in case of emergencies or critical situations. Additional recommendations for ensuring one's energy independence in the face of potential threats have also been proposed.
