The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine supported the law on deferment from mobilization in the first reading. According to this law, certain categories of conscripted citizens will have the opportunity to receive a deferment. In particular, this applies to conscripted individuals and reservists aged 18 to 25 who, during the state of war, signed a contract for military service and were discharged after its completion.
Individuals who have left military service will receive a 12-month deferment, during which they can only be summoned for service with their consent. The authors of the law emphasize that after being discharged under contract, young citizens lose the right to deferment until they reach the age of 25, which creates the risk of being called up for mobilization immediately after discharge. The adoption of this law is aimed at addressing this legal issue and providing appropriate time for the adaptation of those who have already served their contract during the war.
The adoption of the law on deferment from mobilization will allow conscripted individuals to better prepare for civilian life after military service and avoid negative consequences of being called to service immediately after discharge from the Armed Forces.
