Ukraine has asked the IAEA to convene a Board of Governors meeting. Ukraine's Deputy Minister of Energy Mykola Kolisnyk reported on this initiative, which is aimed at protecting critical infrastructure from potential Russian attacks and increasing international pressure in the field of nuclear and radiation safety. The main goal is to coordinate actions for effective countering of threats.
'Russia uses intelligence data to attack key elements of energy systems,' Kolisnyk emphasized.
The deputy minister noted that Russia is attacking substations that supply the Khmelnytsky and Rivne nuclear power plants, leading to power supply disruptions and requiring restrictions. The situation is critical in Poltava and Kharkiv regions due to insufficient electricity transmission. Kolisnyk urged business to take advantage of electricity imports to avoid restrictions.
In connection with Ukraine's appeal to the IAEA to convene the Board of Governors, the application of coordination measures should become an important step in enhancing the safety of nuclear and radiation facilities amid the escalation of the conflict with Russia.
