In Ukraine, teachers are promised salaries of 20 thousand: when to expect changes

В Україні вчителям обіцяють підвищення оплати праці: коли варто очікувати на поліпшення ситуації.

The committee of the Verkhovna Rada demands that the Prime Minister and the Budget Committee urgently resolve the issue of increasing teachers' salaries to the level of three minimum wages and changing the payment structure.

Committee Chairman Serhiy Babak noted that the Cabinet did not include in the budget draft amendments regarding 3 minimum wages due to the need for additional funding of over 20 billion hryvnias.

'To implement the reform requires 13.497 billion hryvnias,' Babak noted.

According to the committee chairman, more than half of this money returns to the budget in the form of various taxes.

Babak emphasized that without the reform, the state continues to finance the training of a significant number of young teachers who subsequently leave education due to low salaries.

Salary increase for young teachers

According to the planned salary increase, a young teacher with an 18-hour workload will receive 10,845 hryvnias after September 1, which represents a 33% increase instead of the promised 50%.

This increase is planned as a separate payment, not a structural increase, which raises distrust among teachers.

'We have done everything possible for a young teacher to receive 19,975 hryvnias net. The Ministry of Finance has done a huge job to find additional funds for teachers. We have come a long way, and there is no sense in yielding six months before the goal,' Babak emphasized.

The appeal to the government regarding the salary increase for teachers occurred with the demand to raise pay to the level of three minimum wages. Committee Chairman Serhiy Babak emphasized that the reform is necessary, as low wages lead to the outflow of young teachers. The planned salary increase for young teachers does not satisfy professionals since the increase is 33% instead of the promised 50%. It is also planned as a separate payment, not a structural increase.
