Ukrainian Athletes Conclude 2026 Winter Olympics Without Medals

Ukraine's national team concluded its participation in the 2026 Winter Olympics without winning a medal. Despite this, the athletes delivered a respectable performance, securing eight top-ten finishes across various disciplines. This outcome highlights the competitive challenges at the highest level of winter sports.

In freestyle skiing and luge, Ukrainian competitors achieved a sixth-place finish. This result was earned by a mixed team consisting of:

  • Oleksandr Okypniuk
  • Dmytro Kotovskyi
  • Yulianna Tunytska
  • Ihor Hoi
  • Nazarii Kachmar
  • Andrii Mandzii
  • Oleksandra Moh
  • Olena Stetskiv

Oleksandra Moh and Olena Stetskiv also placed seventh in the women's doubles luge event. In biathlon, the Ukrainian team finished eighth in the mixed relay, which featured:

  • Dmytro Pidruchnyi
  • Vitalii Mandzyn
  • Olena Horodna
  • Oleksandra Merkushina

A ninth-place finish was secured by the relay team of Oleksandra Merkushina, Yuliia Dzhima, Khrystyna Dmytrenko, and Darina Chalyk. Additional tenth-place results were achieved by Kateryna Kotsar in freestyle, as well as by Oleksandr Okypniuk and Vitalii Mandzyn in their respective disciplines.

Success at the World Cup of Duathlon

Concurrently, at the Log-Lift Duathlon World Cup held in Šiauliai, Lithuania, Ukrainian athletes celebrated significant victories. Tetiana Davydenko won gold in the women's under-63 kg weight class and silver in the women's absolute category. Valerii Hazaiev claimed gold in the Military absolute category, silver in the men's under-120 kg weight class, and bronze in the men's absolute category. He also set a new Ukrainian record in the under-120 kg category with a triathlon total of 701 kg. Volodymyr Dubovyi delivered another strong performance, winning gold in the men's under-90 kg weight class.

The European Duathlon Championship is scheduled to take place from May 8 to 10 in Tskhaltubo, Georgia, where Ukrainian athletes will have the opportunity to build on these successes.

The 2026 Winter Olympics demonstrated the capabilities of Ukrainian athletes, who, despite the medal drought, proved their competitiveness on the world stage. Meanwhile, the triumphs at the Duathlon World Cup underscore the nation's potential in other strength sports. The upcoming European Championship represents a key opportunity for these athletes to further their achievements and solidify their standing in European sport.
