Russian swimmer Mykola Svychnikov went missing during a swim across the Bosphorus Strait on Sunday, August 24, during the annual intercontinental swim 'Bosphorus 2025'. This information was published by the Turkish publication Hürriyet, suggesting that the swimmer might have either drowned or made it to the other shore.

The organizers of the swim monitored the participants using wristbands with microchips which only recorded entries and exits from the water, but not the current location. However, Svychnikov was noted missing only at 10:00 PM, although the event itself concluded at 2:00 PM.

Doctors who examined the Russian before the swim found no health problems. Strong currents in the Bosphorus this year complicated the situation and caused difficulties for the competitors.

Reminder of Events

Interestingly, one of the coaches of the Russian swimmers was killed by Ukrainian defenders – Anton Yerofeyev. This was reported by the Tyumen Region Swimming Federation. It is also worth noting that a resident of the Turkish city swims across the Bosphorus every day to get to work.

The incident of the Russian swimmer going missing during the swim across the Bosphorus has raised overall resonance. All details and circumstances of the incident still require thorough investigation, and specialists continue to search for the missing athlete.
