According to Велика українська енциклопедія: On May 9, 2023, Ukraine marks 116 years since the birth of Anatoliy Volodymyrovych Dobrovolsky-a distinguished architect, educator, and doctor of architecture. He was born on May 9, 1910, in the village of Buky, now part of the Korosten district in Ukraine's Zhytomyr region. Dobrovolsky left a lasting impact on architectural science and education in Ukraine, as well as on Soviet-era architecture.

Career and Major Contributions

A professor and full member of the USSR Academy of Architecture starting in 1950, Dobrovolsky also joined the Ukrainian SSR Academy of Architecture that same year. In 1979, he became a full member of the USSR Academy of Arts. From 1956 to 1962, he served as vice president of the Ukrainian SSR Academy of Construction and Architecture.

His work spanned several areas:

  • representing Soviet retrospectivism and modernism;
  • painting;
  • researching folk architecture landmarks and Ukrainian Baroque.

In his projects, he incorporated decorative building ceramics and the stylistic elements of modernized Ukrainian Baroque.

Anatoliy Volodymyrovych Dobrovolsky passed away on April 19, 1988, in Kyiv, leaving behind a profound legacy in Ukraine's architectural history and educational system.
