Ukraine Accelerates Anti-Drone Net Deployment to Shield Key Supply Lines in Donetsk
Ukraine Intensifies Counter-Drone Operations
According to Главком: Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has announced a significant acceleration in the installation of anti-drone netting along crucial supply routes in the Donetsk region. This defensive work is focused on two strategically vital axes, covering a combined distance of more than 25 kilometers. The State Special Transport Service is leading the effort, constructing these protective shelters at a pace of roughly one kilometer per day, with the goal of completing these sections by the end of this month.
Scale of Deployed Defensive Structures
Since the start of 2026, Ukraine has already assembled 371 kilometers of anti-drone structures across seven regions: Kyiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson. These defensive measures are a direct response to the Russian military's increasing reliance on FPV drones to target both military transport and civilian vehicles. In March alone, Ukrainian interceptor drones destroyed over 33,000 hostile unmanned aerial vehicles, a figure double that of the previous month, highlighting the escalating nature of the drone war.
The deployment of anti-drone netting is a critical component of Ukraine's strategy to counter unmanned aerial threats used against civilian infrastructure. This ramp-up in defensive construction underscores the growing menace posed by Russian forces and the urgent need to secure logistics corridors, which are vital for sustaining the nation's defense capabilities. Completing these new protective shelters by month's end is expected to substantially improve defenses against drone attacks, offering a physical barrier to complement electronic warfare and interceptor drone efforts.
As Ukraine bolsters its defenses against aerial threats, the expansion of its drone forces to 165,000 personnel becomes even more critical. This move is expected to enhance the country's operational capabilities, further intensifying efforts to counter the increasing frequency of drone attacks on both military and civilian targets.
