Ukraine holds 150 foreigners captive: why Russia refuses exchanges

According to glavcom.ua: The Ukrainian captivity currently includes more than 150 foreigners from 36 countries around the world. Russia, however, is in no hurry to release them, using them in its army under deceptive pretexts. As journalist Dmytro Apostol Karpenko explained, the Russians do not want to exchange foreigners, as they do not consider them effective fighters, unlike their own soldiers.

"The worst part is that Russia does not need them. They are not being exchanged. They are simply sitting in our captivity. Their countries can do nothing because they are not parties to the conflict," noted Karpenko.

Thus, Ukrainian captives remain hostages in the conflict, while Ukraine also faces problems with the captivity of its own soldiers as well as foreign fighters who have inadvertently found themselves in the conflict zone.
