Bus Plunges Down Nepal Mountainside, Killing Seven Indian Pilgrims
Nepal Bus Crash Kills Seven
According to Главком: A bus carrying Indian pilgrims plunged down a mountainside in Nepal on Saturday evening, resulting in seven fatalities and nine injuries. The accident occurred near the village of Shahid Lakhan. All of the deceased were Indian citizens.
The crash happened in central Nepal, roughly 120 km from the capital, Kathmandu. The group was returning from the Manakamana Hindu temple. Preliminary reports indicate the driver lost control on a sharp bend, causing the bus to fall approximately 150 meters down the slope. Among the injured are seven Indian pilgrims, as well as the Nepali driver and his assistant. All survivors have been hospitalized. Nepal's mountainous terrain and challenging road conditions are a known risk for drivers and travelers alike.
Ongoing Road Safety Concerns
Authorities are preparing the victims' bodies for autopsy as part of the investigation. Nepal consistently grapples with a high rate of traffic accidents, a problem often attributed to poor road conditions, inadequate vehicle maintenance, and the inherent dangers of its mountainous landscape, which features many narrow and treacherous stretches.
This latest tragedy underscores persistent road safety issues in Nepal, where accidents are frequently caused by a combination of hazardous infrastructure and insufficient transport oversight. The government may face renewed pressure to improve infrastructure and ensure passenger safety to prevent future incidents. The loss of Indian lives could also draw attention to tourist safety in bilateral discussions between the two neighboring nations.
