Teen Gang Terrorizes Zhytomyr: Five Attacks and a Theft Spree
Rising Violence from a Youth Group in Zhytomyr
According to Главком: In Zhytomyr, the Kroshnya neighborhood and surrounding areas are under siege by a violent teenage gang. The group, which includes three biological brothers, is responsible for at least five documented assaults. Police have identified the perpetrators as five adolescents-three siblings and their two accomplices. A pre-trial investigation is underway for robbery and theft, with authorities also considering removing the minors from their families.
Brazen Assaults and Law Enforcement Response
One of the first shocking incidents occurred in broad daylight at a grocery store. During the attack, one suspect used a gas canister, causing the female cashier to seek medical treatment. Another attacker carried barbecue skewers. The gang later escalated to bigger crimes. Surveillance footage captured them smashing the window of a motorcycle shop at 3 a.m. with a rock. Their target was transportation: they stole two helmets valued at over 8,000 hryvnias. The entire operation took just three minutes, and the group fled before security arrived.
It has emerged that the parents of these teens have been repeatedly charged under Article 184 of the Ukrainian Code of Administrative Offenses (failure to fulfill parental duties). The situation has now reached a critical point, prompting law enforcement to consider more severe measures. Potential sanctions for the parents may be strengthened.
'One boy ran in quickly and just gassed us along with the saleswoman,' said one of the victims, a woman named Iryna.
Another store employee, Andriy, recounted: 'They tried to take equipment but couldn't pull it through the broken window. Then they started rummaging through drawers looking for money.'
This follows previous reports of a robbery of a Ukrainian Armed Forces veteran with a prosthetic limb in Kyiv on European Union Avenue. Additionally, police have completed their investigation and sent to court the case of two foreigners who stole tobacco products in the Dnipro district of the capital.
The situation in Zhytomyr highlights broader issues of juvenile delinquency and inadequate parental accountability. Local authorities and law enforcement are seeking effective solutions that not only punish offenders but also prevent future incidents. Removing children from their homes could be a key step in combating underage crime, as it demands greater responsibility from parents in raising their children.
The rise in youth violence is not an isolated incident, as similar cases have been reported across Ukraine. For instance, a recent court ruling in Lviv involved a man accused of taking a 13-year-old girl hostage, highlighting the urgent need for legal measures to protect minors. This growing trend of violent behavior among youth raises serious concerns about safety and parental responsibility. To read more about this alarming case, visit the details of the Lviv incident.
