Lviv Court Orders Pretrial Detention for Man Accused of Taking 13-Year-Old Girl Hostage

Disturbing Incidents in Lviv and Kyiv

According to Главком: In Lviv, a 43-year-old man suspected of seizing a 13-year-old girl as a hostage has been placed in pretrial detention without the option of bail, as ordered by a local court. The event unfolded on May 9 around 4:30 p.m. on Kavaleridze Street. According to law enforcement, the suspect attempted to flee upon noticing military personnel and police officers, but instead grabbed the girl, threatened her with a knife, and held her close with his arm around her neck.

Through coordinated efforts between police and Territorial Recruitment Center personnel, the attacker was apprehended and the girl freed without injury. The suspect has a prior criminal record for property offenses. He was detained under Article 208 of Ukraine’s Criminal Procedure Code and has been formally charged under Part 2 of Article 146 of the Criminal Code, which addresses illegal imprisonment or kidnapping and carries a potential sentence of up to five years in prison. A pretrial investigation is currently ongoing.

Deadly Attack in Kyiv

In a separate case in Kyiv, a 22-year-old Russian citizen was arrested on suspicion of stabbing a local resident inside an apartment in the Obolon district. Reports indicate the wounded victim attempted to escape through a window on the 11th floor but fell to his death. The suspect also has a criminal history, having previously faced charges for drug-related offenses.

Special police forces were deployed to make the arrest. A forensic examination of the deceased revealed both stab wounds and injuries consistent with a high-altitude fall. The conflict between the two men erupted while they were inside an apartment on Obolonskyi Avenue.
