Ukrainian Father Describes His Daughter's Polish School Prom

The celebration took place in the school's gymnasium, where parents of the graduates participated in the official portion of the event. To cover the costs, each family contributed 300 Polish zloty per child-equivalent to approximately 3,627 Ukrainian hryvnias based on the exchange rate that day.

Professional services were hired for the prom, including:

• a photographer
• catering for four classes
• a DJ who ran a dance party until 10:00 PM

Additionally, the class collectively arranged a single bouquet for their homeroom teacher. Vladyslav noted that both teachers and students gave speeches during the event, expressing gratitude for the time they had spent together.

Safety and Traditions

A key requirement for organizing the event was that any parent wishing to attend had to provide a certificate of no criminal record. This rule is based on Poland's Law on Preventing Sexual Crimes and Protecting Minors, enacted on May 13, 2016. According to Article 21 of this law, individuals must be screened before being allowed to engage in activities involving the upbringing, education, recreation, or care of children.

Vladyslav also emphasized that no one gave gifts such as earrings, bracelets, rings, tablets, or laptops at the prom, and there were no changes made to the classroom decorations.

“No one is replacing curtains for anyone, no one is buying anything, and no one is doing any renovations in the classrooms,”

he said. As a result, the prom night was marked by simplicity and sincerity, reflecting the traditions of the Polish educational system.
