Brussels Marks the Occasion with a Flag-Raising

According to 5 канал: Outside the European Commission’s headquarters in Brussels, Ukraine’s national banner was raised to mark the country’s Independence Day. The move was intended as a clear symbol of the European Union’s solidarity with Ukraine. Commission President Ursula von der Leyen shared a video on X, saying:

“so that it may fly proudly at the very heart of our Union, where it belongs. Ukraine will regain its security. Its freedom. And it will claim its rightful place in our Union.”

Paris Prepares a Blue-and-Yellow Tribute

Later on August 24, the Eiffel Tower in Paris is set to glow in blue and yellow, the colors of Ukraine’s flag. The ceremony will take place at the Place des Droits de l’Homme near Trocadéro, with appearances by Mayor Emmanuel Grégoire, Ukrainian Ambassador Vadym Omelchenko, and the choir “Zernyatko,” which will perform several songs in support of Ukraine. At 9:30 PM, the tower’s lights will switch to the Ukrainian flag’s colors, giving the occasion a particularly striking visual focus.

A High-Level Meeting of the Willing Coalition

Also scheduled for August 24 is a session of leaders from the countries making up the “Coalition of the Willing.” The meeting will be chaired by British Prime Minister Andy Burnham, French President Emmanuel Macron, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. So far, neither the agenda nor the format of the gathering has been made public. NATO will be represented by Deputy Secretary-General Radmila Shekerinska, a sign that security issues and continued support for Ukraine are on the international agenda.

Taken together, these events send a powerful message of international solidarity with Ukraine as the country faces an ongoing war and pushes for closer ties with Europe. From the flag in Brussels to the illuminated Eiffel Tower, the imagery is meant to boost Ukrainian morale and show that the country’s quest for freedom and independence has broad Western backing. The same-day meeting of the Coalition of the Willing also points to intensive diplomatic efforts to strengthen Ukraine’s security and sustain support for its defense.
