USA to Cancel 10% of Flights: Government Shutdown Threatens to Paralyze Airports
U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy stated that if the government fails to reach an agreement and avoid a shutdown, 10% of flights at the country’s 40 largest airports will be canceled. This will affect 30 of the busiest airports, including New York, Washington, Chicago, Atlanta, Los Angeles, and Dallas. It is expected to result in the cancellation of 1,800 flights and 268,000 seats on airplanes.
If the air traffic situation does not stabilize, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) warns that even more stringent flight restrictions may emerge after Friday.
Airline representatives, including the group Airlines for America, have already stated that they are working with the government to mitigate the impact of these restrictions on passengers and shippers. Currently, the country is facing a real threat of a chain reaction of flight delays due to a lack of sufficient air traffic controllers and technical specialists who are not being paid and cannot support their families.
Sean Duffy threatens to cancel 10% of flights in the 40 largest airports in the U.S. if the government does not agree to continue operations. The situation is currently quite tense, and the civil aviation industry is actively seeking solutions to the problem.
