The boxing match ended in scandal: the coach attempted to strangle the referee
At the European Schoolboys Boxing Championship (under 75 kg), the final match took place between Azerbaijani Yusif Agakishev and Serbian Viktor Majstorovic, resulting in a loud scandal. Agakishev's coach, Hamza Avezov, attacked the referee of the match from North Macedonia, Stefan Cubalevski, grabbing him by the neck and trying to strangle him. The incident was stopped by representatives of both boxers.
“I was stronger than my opponent and could have won the match. But the judges took responsibility for their decision. My coach couldn't take it anymore and ran into the ring. My opponent was local – it was unfair here,” said Agakishev.
As a result of this incident, the Azerbaijani athlete and his coach were disqualified. The Boxing Federation of this country condemned the coach's actions but believes that the referee was already biased and deprived the Azerbaijani of a deserved victory. It should be noted that the European Boxing Championship was held in Serbia.
