The Bring Kids Back UA Initiative

According to Главком: The Bring Kids Back UA project has successfully secured the return of more than 2,100 Ukrainian children who were forcibly taken to Russia. This effort is a critical response to a grave humanitarian crisis, with the United Nations formally classifying the deportation and forced displacement of these children as a crime against humanity. Since the start of this year alone, 150 children have been brought back to Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has underscored the vital importance of international backing for this mission, stating:

“We specifically discussed support for our efforts at the level of international organizations. Recently, for the first time at the UN level, the deportation and forced displacement of our children were qualified as a crime against humanity. This is very important, and such work must continue.” - Volodymyr Zelenskyy

International Coalition Meeting

A ministerial-level meeting of the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children is scheduled for May 11 in Brussels. President Zelenskyy expressed hope for 'broad representation, concrete decisions, and practical support from partners' at this gathering.

In a related operation, Europol, working with Dutch partners, has identified 45 Ukrainian children who were forcibly displaced or deported. The information on these minors has been handed over to Ukrainian authorities for further investigation. The Bring Kids Back UA team includes representatives Oleksandr Bevz and Maksym Maksymov. Children affected by these crimes are currently located in temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, Russia, and Belarus.

Recovering these abducted children is a pivotal part of broader international human rights efforts to protect the safety of Ukrainian minors impacted by the war. The upcoming Brussels meeting could prove a crucial moment for developing new support strategies and mechanisms, helping to sustain global focus on this urgent issue.

In addition to the ongoing efforts to bring back Ukrainian children, the U.S. has recently pledged significant financial support to aid in the reunification of these minors. This commitment underscores the international community's recognition of the urgent need to address this humanitarian crisis.
