According to ДСНС: A carbon monoxide poisoning incident in the Kharkiv region serves as a stark reminder of this invisible danger. The event occurred in the Podvirky settlement of the Solonytsiv community, where five people-one man, two women, and two children-were hospitalized. The cause was a malfunctioning gas heating system. A community rescue officer was on the scene providing aid to the victims. This silent, odorless gas is a particular risk during winter when heating systems are in constant use.

Since the beginning of February 2026, Ukraine has recorded 58 cases of carbon monoxide poisoning. Of these, 27 incidents were linked to the use of alternative energy and heating sources. These 27 cases resulted in 17 fatalities and 54 injuries, including 22 children. Carbon monoxide is especially dangerous because it is both colorless and odorless, making detection without proper equipment nearly impossible.
