ChatGPT takes readers away from Google: what will happen to the news?

ChatGPT replaces Google for readers
Як штучний інтелект змінює медіа-ландшафт та сприйняття новин?

According to data from Similarweb, from May 2024, the number of search queries that do not lead to a website has increased from 56% to 69%. This data shows that users are increasingly reading news directly in search results or in response to queries, without visiting actual sites.

The number of news sought in ChatGPT has increased by 212%, while visits to news websites rose from less than 1 million to more than 25 million in a year. The resources that were most often visited include Reuters, NY Post, and Business Insider. However, The New York Times showed a slight increase despite its popularity.

News topics that interest users

Statistics show that industries such as finance, stock markets, sports, politics, and economics are of most interest. However, even this traffic growth is not enough to offset losses from declining organic search.

Google is trying to help media resources with their losses by offering a new feature called Offerwall. This feature allows news websites to earn money not only through advertising but also via micropayments or subscriptions.

Amazon also plays a key role in implementing future technologies by announcing the replacement of human workers with robots. Amazon has deployed its millionth robot and implemented a new artificial intelligence model called DeepFleet.

New studies show the rise in popularity of news through the use of ChatGPT, where users can find a lot of interesting information without the need to visit separate sites. This allows for a quick overview of news and blogs on various topics, ensuring traffic growth on the platform. Popular resources like Reuters and Business Insider are experiencing significant increases in traffic, confirming the importance of innovative approaches to news content distribution.
