According to МЗС: On December 1, 1991, Ukrainians participated in the All-Ukrainian referendum where they had the chance to express their position regarding the Act of Declaration of Independence of Ukraine. Everyone was asked to answer the question 'Do you confirm the Act of Declaration of Independence of Ukraine?', and more than 90% of participants answered 'yes'.

This decision was supported throughout the territory of Ukraine, from Donetsk to Lviv, from Kyiv to Yalta. The votes of Ukrainians demonstrated our unity and helped support the idea of living in an independent state. The referendum not only affirmed the will of the Ukrainian people but also contributed to the collapse of the Soviet Union.

The 1991 referendum confirmed the support of Ukrainians for Ukraine's independence and became an important step in the formation of the country's statehood, as well as in the history of the struggle for freedom and sovereignty. The voting showed the determination and unity of the Ukrainian people in their desire to live in a free country.
