In Ukraine, fuel prices now exceed the real market value by 14–16%, and a further increase of 7–10% is expected at the beginning of 2026 due to another price hike. This assessment was given by experts in the fuel market, explaining that this is due to increased excise taxes and the lack of government control over prices. This is reported by "Kyiv 1".

According to analysts, the current situation is caused by the market concentration in the hands of a few large companies, which effectively creates conditions for monopolization. As a result, gas stations make up to UAH 8 profit per liter of fuel sold, while retail prices are artificially kept at a high level.

Excise taxes will rise — fuel prices will increase

Starting from January 1, 2026, a new phase of fuel excise tax increases will come into effect in Ukraine. This will directly affect the retail price of gasoline, diesel, and autogas.

It is expected that excise taxes on fuel will rise:

  • gasoline — from 271.7 to 300.8 euros per ton;

  • diesel — from 215.7 to 253.8 euros per ton;

  • liquefied gas — from 173 to 198 euros per ton.

According to preliminary estimates, the new rates could add another 1.5–2 hryvnias per liter of fuel plus about 5% in total markup.

Possible shortage and price increase

Experts also assess the risk of a fuel shortage at up to 40%, which could provoke a sharp increase in prices and supply disruptions. They advise drivers to prepare in advance — at least partially create a fuel reserve.

In November the prices at gas stations looked like this: gasoline A-95 — UAH 58.66/l, diesel — UAH 56.52/l, autogas — UAH 34.46/l. However, analysts warn that the current stability may be temporary, and the situation in the market may change sharply in the coming months.
