Ex-Chief Justice's Brother Charged with Treason for Alleged Russian Espionage Dating to 2014
Suspect Identified as Rulav Odd
According to Главком: The State Bureau of Investigations has formally charged and is searching for Rulav Odd, formerly known as Denys Shevchuk, the brother of former Constitutional Court Chief Justice Stanislav Shevchuk. Odd is suspected of state treason and subversive activities against Ukraine. His current whereabouts are unknown, and a warrant has been issued for his arrest.
Charges and Case Details
Law enforcement accuses Odd of crimes linked to the 2013-2014 Euromaidan revolution. During October and November 2013, Shevchuk allegedly joined a group conducting subversive activities coordinated by then-Deputy Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, Volodymyr Sivkovych. According to case files, he received instructions from the Russian Federation to infiltrate pro-European integration circles.
Furthermore, after Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine began, Shevchuk, now operating under the name Rulav Odd, disseminated anti-Ukrainian propaganda. Odd also reportedly crossed the border outside of an official checkpoint, complicating efforts to locate him. The investigation continues to work on establishing all circumstances and the suspect's involvement in the alleged crimes.
This case highlights the severe legal consequences for individuals suspected of collaborating with hostile states, a particularly sensitive issue during an ongoing war. The Ukrainian government has intensified efforts to root out internal threats to national security since the invasion. Investigating such cases is crucial for ensuring national security and upholding justice, especially in the context of Russian aggression. The search and potential capture of suspects like Odd are seen as vital steps in countering anti-Ukrainian activity and propaganda.
