Labor Shortage: Pensioners Become a 'Reserve' Group of Workers
Ukrainian companies are actively engaging pensioners for work due to the significant shortage of labor in the country. The President of the Association of Private Employers, Alexander Chumak, explained that salaries for pensioners in such companies are usually 10-20% lower than the average salary in the industry. Employers increasingly see pensioners as a ready reserve of workers and are willing to actively recruit them, especially in the fields of security, administration, warehousing, and trade. Companies mainly seek among pensioners those who already have work experience in this company, which allows them to save time and resources on hiring new employees. One of the main motives for companies is the large labor shortage due to mobilization and labor migration, as well as the opportunity to save on payroll. The expert also noted that due to military circumstances, the participation of women in traditionally 'male' professions has increased.
